The diagram on the left makes explicit one relation between the metafunctions (Halliday & Matthiessen 2004: 461):

thinking projects propositions (giving or demanding information) and

desiring projects proposals (giving or demanding goods–&–services).

‘propositions are thought, proposals are hoped’ (ibid.)

But interpersonal metaphor is especially interesting in this regard.
