Similarly, if we use the generalised ‘ergative’ model to map
verbal processes onto material processes, we see that saying is also a creative
happening, in which the Sayer is Actor and the Verbiage is the Scope.
So in viewing saying as a creative happening, the outcome of
saying is the coming into existence of the
Sayer — a symbol source — and the Verbiage is construed as the domain
over which the saying process takes place (or as the saying process
itself).
